Best Shows This Week: January 15 to January 21, 2018

Things are starting to heat up as we hit the middle of January. All the festival lineups are dropping like flies (which do you like more — Coachella? Bonnaroo? Shaky Knees? Governors Ball?) and the show schedule is finally starting to ramp up. I’ll be seeing a couple shows this week — Craig David at The Roxy and the Soft White Sixties at The Echo at the very least, but there’s a full slate of really good stuff worth checking out in our Best Shows This Week listings below.

Super bummed at how many good shows are happening over the weekend, but I’ll be in Las Vegas seeing my friend dance for Katy Perry, which will be super fucking awesome. But I highly recommend catching a show in LA if you’re here!

Craig David Presents TS5, Jimbo Jenkins at The Roxy, 8 PM show, *SOLD OUT*

I’ve now missed Craig David twice in LA because I wasn’t in town and I’m so excited I finally get to see his live show. I’m still blown away Goldenvoice didn’t book him at any of their festivals (would’ve been awesome at Coachella 2018) when he sold out the El Rey and Fonda Theatre for them in the last year. He’s combined his awesome throwback jams while updating his sound for 2018 — you may have heard him kill it on KAYTRANADA and Matoma tracks and his song with Bastille that he just released is sweet too. Check it out above!

THURSDAY, JANUARY 18

Soft White Sixties, Guards, Veronica Bianqui at The Echo, 8:30 PM, 18+, $9.50 advance, $12 day-of

This fucking band deserves to be much bigger than they are. If you’re a fan of old Black Keys, these guys have that with more depth. They consistently put on some of the highest energy shows I’ve ever seen. This bill also features two acts I’m fond of in Guards and Veronica Bianqui, get there early!

Jim James of My Morning Jacket at Amoeba Music, 6 PM, free with purchase of album
