Billie Eilish new video for “Bellyache” simple but on point

Los Angeles-based pop singer Billie Eilish dropped a new video for her latest single “Bellyache,” and it fits the psychotic narrative weaved in the song’s lyrics.

The teenaged Eilish is pulling a red wagon with garbage bags full of cash through the desert, dancing to the chorus, banging her hands against her head while asking, “Where’s my mind?” The singer — who reminds me of Danish singer MØ meets Lana Del Rey — is far ahead of her years in songwriting, and that vision extends to her visuals as evidenced by this video. Check it out below.

The song puts Eilish into a character of someone who commits murder and the regret and guilt that comes – or doesn’t come – with it. Like many of my favorite pop songs before it (Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life?), the song deals with dark subject matter with contrasting upbeat melodies that you’ll want to dance to.

I caught Billie Eilish at CRSSD Fest earlier this month — her first festival appearance ever — and were blown away by her charisma and confidence on stage. I’m very much looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us the rest of the year. Hopefully that includes an L.A. performance!
