Cat Power shares Lana del Rey collaboration “Woman”

Indie rock legend Cat Power has her first new album in six years dropping later this year, and the first real single just emerged. Even more — it’s got star power.

The song “Woman” features Lana del Rey providing some backup vocals. You know Cat Power commands respect in the music world when she can convince someone of Lana’s level to come on as a backup vocalist.

The song is Cat Power returning to her singer-songwriter roots after 2012’s Sun explored an electro-pop vibe. It has a groovy vintage keyboard riff that was a staple of her earlier work. The official video dropped as well, featuring Cat Power and her band playing the song with her band in a variety of settings. No Lana del Rey though. Check it out below:

When we caught Cat Power performing a free show in Marina del Rey a few weeks ago, she didn’t play “Woman”, opting only to play the title track from the new record.

The album is called Wanderer and drops October 5 via Domino Records. Cat Power will embark on a lengthy tour that includes a November 21 stop at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel. Who knows? Maybe Lana del Rey will make an appearance for “Woman”.
