Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter have been lighting the world on fire with their brooding dark synthpop grooves since first forming in New York in 2007. Their 2014 album Voices was among my favorite of the last few years. Their October 4 show at the Palladium comes just three days before their third album Three drops on October 7 (via Republic Records). They’ve already shared the first few tracks from the record, including radio favorite “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore.”
The duo toured with Big Boi of OutKast on the festival circuit as Big Grams to start their 2016. I saw them along the way at Air + Style, Hangout, Sasquatch!, Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. They always seemed like they were having the best time on stage and their jams were always upbeat and great crowd anthems. But it’s good to see them back to doing what they do best as a duo.
I can attest that their live shows are impeccable. Their Hollywood Forever Cemetery show was one of my first favorite shows when I moved to LA in 2014. Sarah Barthel is a goddess, always covered in crazy awesome jewelry looking like Cleopatra. She’s got an amazing set of pipes and they always give a killer performance.
Opening act The Range has also been making waves as of late — make sure you get to the show early enough to check him out.
