Jimmy Eat World give iHeartRadio Theater heavy nostalgia

The iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank might be SoCal’s best-kept secret venue. It’s an intimate space with maybe the best sound to go with it. Earlier this month, fans who won tickets got to see indie rock favorites Jimmy Eat World deliver a killer hour-long set full of old favorites and new tracks from their latest record Integrity Blues.

The band wasted no time jumping back into time, kicking things off with “Sweetness” from their album Bleed American — the record that made Jimmy Eat World a household name in the early aughts. The high-energy song had the crowd moving, with singer Jim Adkins egging them on with the anthemic chorus. One of the early singlesĀ from the new record came next and I was surprised how many people were pretty familiar with it right off the bat.

Overall, the set featured five songs from the new album, with a good mix of classics. Their big hit “The Middle” came towards the end of the broadcasted portion of the set, and clearly everyone knew all the words to that one. Seeing Adkins deliver the guitar solo in person was pretty awesome. I had never seen Jimmy Eat World live before despite being a big fan of the band and they did a good job meeting my expectations.

I was surprised to see that Jimmy Eat World aren’t on that many festival bills in 2017. There is always room for a killer nostalgia band on a lineup — just look how well Third Eye Blind did at festivals across the country last year. The band clearly has enough classics to fill an hour-long set as evidenced by their iHeartRadio Theater set.
