Joni steps out on her own with bubbly jam “Omens”

Having written songs for the likes of The Chainsmokers and Icona Pop, recent Los Angeles arrival Joni has proven a talent for written big pop songs.

Now the former New York resident is stepping out on her own with a new single “Omens”. I received a message from another artist I respect Jaja Bu, who told me this was right up my alley — describing it as Broken Bells meets Jenny Lewis. AKA he basically knew how to get my attention. Listen to “Omens” below:

There are certainly Jenny Lewis qualities to Joni’s voice, though I also hear similarities to Nina Persson from The Cardigans. The minimal production allows Joni’s voice to flourish as it sounds as though it’s floating in outer space.

This marks the first single from Joni in three years and a wonderful direction. The song was produced by Noise Club and Pat Howard. I look very much forward to seeing her perform live somewhere in Los Angeles soon!
