Last Wednesday night was no ordinary night in Hollywood. Celebrating the release of his new Party & Destroy EP (via Mad Decent) was Los Angeles-based deejay Party Favor. He didn’t do it with the usual record release party — Party Favor instead chose to live up to the name of the EP and destroy some shit.
I got an invite from my friend Molly to this event and the flyer said “YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DESTROY SHIT AT THIS PARTY.” That’s unique and promising. I arrived at the venue with one of my roommates and saw some girl taking a baseball bat to an old-school TV. There were a bunch of them setup in a pyramid with Party Favor spray-painted across the front of them. Molly and my roommate got their turns at taking swings. My roommate’s swings were so weak that I wish I could edit the video to the sounds of Enya.
Afterwards we went through to the actual venue — Adults Only. It has a fake video storefront with a sideroom that had a porno playing on a miniature old TV — because why not. Then through the curtain is a full-sized bar. Someone was on the decks spinning while the movie Top Gun was projected on a screen above them.
Around 10:30 PM, Party Favor jumped on and turned the party up. A sick remix of Fugees’ “Ready Or Not” grabbed my attention quickly. I met a girl that said she drove up from San Diego just for this show. Later on I bumped into some other DJs — Paz and Carter Cruise — in the behind-the-decks area. There were whispers of some surprise guests popping up and around 11:30, JAUZ and Valentino Khan popped up and did a B2B set.
My night ended with grabbing Mexican food across the street with my roommate at some place called Tacos El Gavilan. I definitely felt those vodka-crans I shouldn’t have drank at the end of the night when I woke up. Props to Space Yacht, Mad Decent and Pizza Slime for throwing a dope and unorthodox release party.

LA peeps should be happy to know that Party Favor will be playing the El Rey Theatre on Saturday, October 8. Tickets to the 18-and-over show are $20.00 and go on sale Friday, August 19 at 10 AM Pacific Time. There is also a pre-sale currently going on with the code GSTRING. Doors to the show are at 8 PM with the show starting at 9 PM.
