Brandi Carlile brings new life to ‘The Story’ at Orpheum

Brandi Carlile was in Los Angeles on Friday to perform her record The Story in its entirety at the Orpheum Theater, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the breakthrough album.

The tour that the show was part of was tied to her Cover Stories project to benefit War Child UK — where she got acts like Pearl Jam,  Dolly Parton, the Avett Brothers and more to record cover versions of all 14 original songs from her record.

The show featured Carlile play the record front-to-back, including “Cannonball” being sung in front of the stage without a microphone. Afterwards, she returned to the stage to play 10 more songs — including covers of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and set-closer “Going to California” by Led Zeppelin. She also brought a contest winner on stage to sing “Shadow on the Wall”, sang “Beginning to Feel the Years” from the balcony, and new song “Give Away Your Love”
