Hatchie drenches Bootleg Theater in dream pop vibes

Hatchie at the Bootleg Theater

Dream pop artist Hatchie from Brisbane is the latest in a long line of recent exports from Australia to make waves.

The singer, born Harriette Pillbeam, headlined the Bootleg Bar on Saturday night, bringing her psychedelic pop vibes to a welcoming crowd. She dropped her shoegazey debut EP Sugar & Spice back in May, and this was her first performance in LA since playing Beach Goth 2018 earlier this year.

A rare singer-songwriter that plays bass, I fell in love with her sound when I first heard the EP’s lead track “Sure”. It has a Sixpence None The Richer “Kiss Me” vibe to its melody and would have fit perfectly in any ’90s teen comedy.

Hatchie has a trio of sold-out shows starting tonight Sept. 26 in Brooklyn at Warsaw. Her tour continues with two shows at Union Transfer in Philly before wrapping up at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on Oct. 2.
