Is the Primavera Sound 2018 lineup the best of this year’s festivals?

We’re into February. Most of the major spring 2018 music festival lineups have dropped. For my money, I think the Primavera Sound 2018 lineup tops the list of the best ones, and it’s not even close.

Headlining Primavera Sound 2018 are Arctic Monkeys, Bjork, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The National, Lorde, A$AP Rocky, and Migos. Billed on the Wednesday portion of the lineup are Belle and Sebastian, as well as Spiritualized backed by an orchestra and choir. That’s tasty.

The headliners might not be as bombastic as Beyonce or Janet Jackson, but the creativity found on the festival’s undercard is unrivaled. Lykke Li, Nils Frahm, Jane Birkin singing Serge Gainsbourg classics, Floating Points live, Arca, Slowdive, The Breeders, and The Internet are some names that can’t be found on any American spring 2018 festival lineup. I mean — Jane Birkin is performing at the same festival her daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg is performing at — holy shit!

The festival also has a good mix of some of the better names that can be seen elsewhere — like The War on Drugs, Vince Staples, CHVRCHES, HAIM, and Father John Misty. Some names that were on the festival circuit heavily in 2017 are hitting Primavera Sound — Lorde, Warpaint, Thundercat, and Car Seat Headrest for instance.

The deep undercard! Holy smokes! Sylvan Esso, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein performing the music of Stranger Things, Ibeyi, Jorja Smith, Tom Misch, Jay Som, Wolf Parade, Alex Lahey, and Sevdaliza stand out.

It’s also one of the best values for your buck. A festival pass only costs 215 euros, roughly 266 US dollars. I need to get my passport shit settled and get out there. Who is coming with me?
