The Shaky Knees 2017 lineup has just dropped and there’s a reason the Atlanta-based festival has become one of my favorites over the past few years: their bookings are top notch.
Headlining the festival’s fifth year are The xx, LCD Soundsystem, and Phoenix. The festival takes place from May 12 to 14 in another new location, this time at Centennial Olympic Park.
Other notable acts on this year’s bill include Cage the Elephant, Pixies, The Shins, Nick Murphy (fka Chet Faker), Third Eye Blind, Portugal. The Man, Sylvan Esso, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Shovels and Rope, Bleachers, Warpaint, Car Seat Headrest, and more. The festival added Ryan Adams and Saint Motel to the bill in late January.
Some of the acts are retreads from years past, however. The Pixies, Dr. Dog, FIDLAR, Preoccupations (then known as Viet Cong), and Mariachi El Bronx all played the festival just two years ago. They have become known for great left-field bookings like last year’s Huey Lewis & the News, Deftones, and Slowdive bookings. This year seems to be lacking one of those, but still maintains a solid overall festival bill.
According to the press release, there are three stages at this year’s fest. Last year, they had five.
I’ve attended Shaky Knees the past two years, and it’s the best rock-oriented festival that caters more to the indie fan than anyone else.
