Smokin Grooves Festival taps Erykah Badu, The Roots for 2022 LA date

Neo-soul and hip-hop dreams will come true when Smokin Grooves returns with an array of iconic acts and emerging talent blazing through LA State Historic Park on March 19, 2022. The one-day festival features performances by Erykah Badu, Nas, The Roots, Miguel, Jhene Aiko, The Internet, Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Smino, Hiatus Kaiyote, Sir, Little Dragon, Toro y Moi, Musiq Soulchild, India.Arie, Macy Gray, Angie Stone, Leela James, Talib Kweli, Roy Ayers, Dead Prez, Slum Village, Dwele, Ravyn Lenae, Phony Ppl, Bilal, Goapele, FousheƩ, Free Nationals, Yussef Dayes, Charlotte Day Wilson, Domi & JD Beck, Unusual Demont, Daydream Masi, Blu & Exile and Jelani Aryeh.

Smokin Grooves was previously held at the Queen Mary Ship & Events Park, in Long Beach, CA and will now enjoy the open air downtown at LA State Historic Park. The festival tour launched in 1996 with Nas, The Fugees, Cypress Hill, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots and made its last appearance in 2019 as a standalone event at the Long Beach site with veteran Erykah Badu, Usher, Kali Uchis, Common, The Pharcyde, Ari Lennox and Malachi. Smokin Grooves 2022 remain Badu and Nas’ first Los Angeles-area shows since their October Hollywood Bowl and Grammy Museum performances, respectively. The Roots previously performed in LA at the Grammy Awards in 2020 at Staples Center and Miguel last played the region in 2018 at the Greek Theatre.

A special presale will begin Friday, December 3 at 10 a.m. PT for guests who sign up for early access to passes online. The remaining tickets will be available to the general public on December 3 at 2 p.m. PT. GA tickets start at $184.99 and VIP tickets (available only 21+) start at $399.99.
