Ever since she was a teenager and released the smash hit Made of Bricks, Kate Nash has perfected writing relatable pop songs. But one of the things I love most about her is how diverse her sound it — from catch pop tunes like “Foundations” to grungy punk-driven stuff like “Sister”. She has found a way to blend those two things seamlessly her latest record Yesterday Was Forever, which dropped March 30 via her own Girl Gang Records. The album was partially funded via Kickstarter.
If you’ve never seen Kate Nash live, you’re missing out. I’ve seen her about a half-dozen times, from Coachella 2014 to shows in Los Angeles where she’s proven to be a punk rock bad ass with quite a handle on catchy pop hooks. It’s also good to see that even though she’s become a known commodity on TV with her star-turn as the encyclopedia-toting Brittanica on Netflix hit GLOW, her music career hasn’t taken a backseat in terms of priority.
Opening the show for Kate Nash is Miya Folick, a talented singer-songwriter in her own right who popped up on my Spotify Discover Weekly a few months back with “Trouble Adjusting” and I’ve been listening ever since.
