Warpaint share new song “Whiteout”

Four-piece groove makers Warpaint have shared the latest song from their upcoming album and it’s a doozy. Titled “Whiteout,” the song comes from their third full-length record Heads Up, due out September 23 via Rough Trade.

The track is one that’s been heavily featured in the band’s setlists as of late. It’s one of two songs from the new record they’ve been playing regularly — the other being the lead single “New Song.” This track features drummer Stella Mozgawa as the backbone of the track with her sudden tempo changes a signature of the song. Jenny Lee Lindberg’s bass lines are also prominently featured. The vocals of every member of Warpaint are on the track with Emily Kokal on lead vocals.

The first single “New Song” may have forced people to wonder if the band was headed in a poppier more dance-y direction. This new song firmly plants itself back in the roots of the band with its groovy base and haunting vocals. It’s really a throwback to the band’s first EPĀ Exquisite Corpse. This is no surprise given the producer Jacob Bercovici produced that EP as well as this new record.

We’re looking forward to Warpaint unpacking more tunes from the record. We happened to come upon an advance copy of the record and can promise more songs along the lines of “Whiteout” are among them. Keep your ears peeled for “So Good” and “Heads Up” — two of our other favorites.

Warpaint plays Long Beach festival Music Tastes Good this weekend with a one-hour Saturday set time. They also headline the Fonda Theatre next month for a sold-out show on Thursday, October 13. Don’t miss them, they are among my favorite bands to see live.
