Tristen, Jenny O pack killer one-two punch at Resident

Saturday night, a killer doubleheader took place at the Resident in DTLA. A pair of talented singer-songwriters took the stage in separate memorable sets — Tristen and Jenny O.

I became aware of Tristen when she joined Jenny Lewis’ touring band a few years back, taking another talented singer’s place Natalie Prass. When I found out Tristen was going to be putting out her own record this year (and that Jenny Lewis featured as a backing vocalist on the lead track), I got pretty big expectations. Her records Sneaker Waves has been in constant rotation for me ever since nabbing a copy. Her sound is a dreamy kind of surf pop and her voice is angelic.

Jenny O has been around the block for quite a bit and there’s a great LA Weekly feature on her courtesy of occasional Pass The Aux contributor Artemis Thomas-Hansard. She brought some new tunes to her set at the Resident as well. Her voice reminds me a bit of Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star, but with a bit of a twang behind it.

We’ve got some great photos of the show thanks to Tim Aarons, who was excited to get a chance to shoot these two talented artists up close. Check them out below!
