On Monday, a longtime dream became a reality. It was announced we will get the opportunity to see Craig David perform his TS5 show in Los Angeles.
The great British R&B singer-songwriter will perform a show at the El Rey Theatre on Saturday, January 21. I’ve long been championing the comeback of the “Fill Me In” singer, who exploded on the scene in the late ‘90s with hit after hit before disappearing late into the new century.
TS5 is Craig David’s DJ set where he mixes in his own songs and sings over some of them — so while it isn’t quite a straight-forward Craig David show, it should still be a good time.
David will be supporting his new record Following My Intuition, which sees him dip a toe in the uber popular EDM genre. David’s comeback first kicked off with an appearance on the KAYTRANADA track “Got It Good” from his critically-acclaimed 2016 album 99.9%. That song appears on David’s record – as well as songs with Hardwell, Sigala, and one that riffs on the Jack U / Bieber hit “What Do You Mean?”
My hopes just raised tenfold that we see Craig David in some capacity on the festival circuit, particularly at Coachella next year. Goldenvoice is the promoter of his El Rey show and a good turnout could make him a sexy pick for the throwback-style booking that the festival takes pride in landing year after year.
Tickets to see Craig David at the El Rey are priced at $22.50 and go on sale Friday, November 11 at 10 AM Pacific Time. There is a Goldenvoice pre-sale on Thursday, November 10 at 10 AM. The password for that pre-sale is INTUITION. Doors to the show are at 8 PM with the show starting at 9 PM.
