Last month we revisited Joseph Arthur‘s debut masterpiece album Big City Secrets on its 20th anniversary. On Tuesday, Arthur shared news that he will be doing some limited touring in support of a different record from his back catalog, Redemption’s Son — celebrating the record’s 15th anniversary.
Redemption’s Son is the record that spawned his most timeless hit, “Honey in the Moon” — a song which has been featured in numerous pieces of film and television, most notable The O.C.’s pilot episode. That’s where I first discovered Joseph Arthur, and he quickly became one of my favorite musicians. He’s also one of my favorite live performers and is often a one-man band, using looping pedals unlike anyone I’ve ever seen. It’ll be great to see the record played in its entirety, something Arthur has never done.
Arthur’s tour will include a stop at the Teragram Ballroom on Tuesday, July 11. Tickets are priced at $20.00 and go on sale Friday, April 14, at 10 AM Pacific Time. Doors are at 7 PM and the show is at 8 PM.
“I’ve never done this album from start to finish live,” Arthur said in a press release. “But Redemption’s Son was always a special record to me and my fans and this clearly seemed like the right time to do it. As I’ve been saying recently to my friends, listening to this album again after all of these years has re-inspired me which honestly was a complete surprise.”
Along with the tour came an announcement that the record will be re-issued via Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records, including a 180-gram double LP — the first time the record has ever been available on vinyl. The record will include nine bonus tracks that have never previously been released, with that being named Morning Star.
Redemption’s Son is a great album and I’m stoked to see some of the deep cuts performed. “September Baby” is one of my five favorite Joseph Arthur songs and I’ve never seen it performed. “In the Night” and “Blue Lips” are also some of my favorite deep cuts.
