Michelle Branch has a special place in my heart. When I was in eighth grade, I bought her Spirit Room album for my then-girlfriend, mostly so I had an excuse to listen to it myself.
So you can count me among the people most excited to learn the news that the singer will be playing a show at the El Rey Theatre on Tuesday, July 25. In fact, when I posted I was interested in the event on Facebook, it received more of a response than probably any previous post of that type. Clearly, Michelle Branch strikes a nostalgic cord for late ’80s babies like myself — and if you’ve heard her new music, you know that she’s returned to those roots.
The pop rock singer-songwriter released her new album Hopeless Romantic last month. Branch underwent years of label strife and a divorce before signing with Verve Records in 2015. She began working with The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney on her record, and a romantic relationship bloomed. The album reflects this part of her life and the sound of the record sounds very much like the Michelle Branch we loved in the early aughts.
Tickets to see Michelle Branch at the El Rey Theatre on July 25 cost $29.00 and are on sale now. Doors to the show open at 7:30 PM and the show starts at 8:30 PM.
