Hangout 2017 lineup: Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean

The lovely beach-side music festival Hangout Fest 2017 lineup dropped Tuesday. This year’s fest will be headlined by Mumford & Sons, Twenty-one Pilots, Frank Ocean and Chance the Rapper.

The lineup also features Major Lazer, Weezer, DJ Snake, MGMT, Sigur Ros, Dillon Francis, Band of Horses, The Head & The Heart, Young the Giant, Charli XCX, Warpaint, Local Natives, Louis the Child and more. See the full lineup poster below.

The beach-side fest has taken on a more mainstream flavor than in previous years. It’s one of the first major festival lineups to drop, so now we can expect the other shoes to start dropping. The bookers have deemed Twenty-one Pilots and Chance the Rapper as quality headliners of a second-tier festival. Twenty-one Pilots headlined Music Midtown in Atlanta last year, so it’s not a huge surprise to see them billed second here. It’s especially not surprising when you take into account the demographic of Hangout — mostly college kids from the surrounding areas.

The festival will take place May 19 to 21, and is now in its eighth year.

Hangout Fest takes place in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Well-known west-coast based promoter Goldenvoice partnered with Hangout in 2015. I’ve been the last two years and can vouch that it is one of the most unique and interesting festivals I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to dozens of different ones. Most people rent condos in walking distance to the fest. Though the shows end at 11 PM each night, people take the party to the beach afterwards and things get pretty crazy. The people are really nice, even though the festival caters to a younger crowd with its mix of electronic and mainstream acts populating the lineup.

There’s some good stuff further down the bill. Gryffin, Bishop Briggs, Bob Moses, LANY, Lewis Del Mar, Barns Courtney, and Frances are worth checking out.

General admission tickets cost and go on sale Thursday, December 1. They are priced at $249.00 for general admission but will go up to $269.00 and later $289.00. VIP tickets are $1,099.00 and it’s one of the better VIP experiences of any festival, with its awesome poolside views of the main stage. Daily lineups dropped April 5.
