Hot Chip turns El Rey into dance party ahead of new album drop

English indie dance rock outfit Hot Chip brought a Williamsburg-type crowd out to a sold-out El Rey on Tuesday night, previewing their upcoming new record.

A Bath Full of Ecstasy drops June 21 via Domino Records, and if Tuesday’s show is any indication — it’s full of bangers. They played three songs from the new record, “Hungry Child”, “Melody of Love”, and “Spell”, and the crowd enjoyed them as much as they did the band’s earlier work.

Hot Chip kicked things off with “Huarache Lights”, and the crowd — full of dudes in Hawaiian-type shirts — was dancing like it was a nightclub. Hot Chip always brings that kind of energy to their shows, and this was no exception.

The biggest surprise of the night was seeing Hot Chip cover Beastie Boys classic “Sabotage” with Money Mark, a frequent collaborator of the iconic New York rap trio.
